Top 8 iphone 4 Challengers in the Market

The release of Apple iPhone 4 has further fueled up the smartphone battle. Almost all top cellphone makers either have an iPhone rival ready or are vigorously working on the same. From Nokia to Samsung to Sony to HTC, all have smartphones that rival Apple iPhone. While some of these smartphones boast of enhanced multimedia features, others tout larger display and improved navigation options.

Here's looking at iPhone 4's key challengers:


Measuring 5 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches, Motorola's iPhone rival sports a big 4.3-inch display with WVGA display and 854 x 480 resolution. The phone weighs 153 grams.

Motorola Droid comes with Android 2.1 OS. According to Motorola, the phone will soon get Android 2.2 update. The phone also packs a new version of MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from social networking services like Facebook and Twitter. Like iPhone, Motorola's device too offers support for multitasking. The smartphone packs an 8 megapixel camera with digital zoom, auto focus, dual LED flash and image editing tools.

Motorola's latest Droid scores high on iPhone 4 on memory front. The phone comes with 8GB onboard memory and 16GB microSD support (pre-installed). MicroSD storage is expandable upto 32GB, taking total expandable memory to 40GB.

For connectivity, Droid has Stereo Bluetooth 1.5, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 HS, HDMI and GPS. Reviews suggest that Motorola Droid X offers 8 hrs of talktime.


One of the most talked-about iPhone killer is Samsung Galaxy S. Android-powered smartphone measures 64.2 X 122.4 X 9.9 mm and weighs 119 grams.

Sporting a 4-inch WVGA (480x800) 16M super AMOLED display, the phone packs a 5 megapixel AF camera. The phone has a VGA camera for video calling. It has option for 720p HD video recording at 30 frames per second. The phone runs on ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor.

Other key features include 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and HD video playback. As for memory, Galaxy S has 8GB and 16GB versions. The phone promises talktime of 769 minutes on 2G and 391 minutes on 3G. 

Next popular iPhone rival is HTC Evo 4G. Measuring 4.8 2.6 X 0.5 inches, HTC's iPhone rival sports a 4.3-inch screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution.

The phone packs 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus, tap to focus, 2x LED flash and has 720p HD video recording. The phone has 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling. As for memory, Evo 4G comes with 1GB internal and has SD slot for upto 32GB memory expansion. The phone promises talktime of upto 5.2 hours.  





4) HTC Droid Incredible
 
Sporting a 3.7-inch WVGA (480x800) AMOLED capacitive touch display, HTC Droid Incredible is another iPhone challenger.

The Android-powered phone packs an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. The phone comes with 8GB internal storage. The phone runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor.

Other key features include Adobe Flash Lite, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Wi-Fi, aGPS, FM radio and 3.5 mm headset jack.






Nokia's first phone running on Linux Maemo operating system, N900, is also a top iPhone contender from Nokia's camp.

Sporting a wide 3.5-inch touchscreen display, Nokia N900 packs a QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, LED flash with 3X digital zoom and GPS.

Also called internet tablet, Nokia N900 offers full Adobe Flash 9.4 support. The phone packs a Maemo 5 operating system and is powered by ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor. As for memory, the phone comes with 32GB internal storage which can be expanded upto 45GB.

Other key features include Wi-Fi, 3G, FM transmitter and Bluetooth. Nokia N900 promises upto 6 hrs 30 min of 2G talktime and upto 4 hrs 30 min of 3G talktime.

6) Nokia N8

Another popular iPhone rival from Nokia’s camp is N8. Powered by the Symbian3 platform, N8's biggest feature is its 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. The phone has a VGA camera for video calling. The phone can record HD videos at 25 frames per second. N8 runs on ARM 11 680 MHz processor.
Measuring 113.5 x 59 x 12.9 mm, the phone weighs 135 grams. Featuring a 3.5-inch multitouch AMOLED touchscreen display, the phone comes with 16GB internal memory. The phone's battery promises upto 5.5 hours of talktime.

Nokia comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation. The phone can play back MPEG4, H.264, Real and Flash Video.





Sony Ericsson XPeria X10
Sony Ericsson recently launched its high-end smartphone Xperia X10. Measuring 116 x 62 x 12 mm, X10 features a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with 16M colours, 852 x 480 pixels. The phone has onscreen QWERTY keyboard. The phone sports an 8 megapixel camera with upto 16x digital zoom, auto-focus, smile recognition, image stabilization and geo tagging.

X10 runs on Android 1.6 OS and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1-GHz processor. The phone is expected to get Android 2.1 update. Among key features, Xperia X10 has a Timescape functionality that lets users share content. The feature also lets users browse status updates from Facebook and Twitter, calls or text messages, email and recent music, photos, or videos

The phone has 1GB internal storage with 8GB card included. According to reports, the phone promises talktime of upto 10 hours. More here >>>

Research In Motion (RIM) recently refreshed its Pearl lineup with the launch of Pearl 9105. Sporting a compact design, the smartphone has a traditional 14-key numeric keypad in place of Blackberry's traditional full or half QWERTY keyboard. The phone also has an optical trackpad, dedicated volume and media keys.

The phone features a 3.5-inch, 360 x 400 pixels, 256 QVGA display. Pearl 9105 is powered by 624 MHz Intel processor and runs Blackberry 5.0 OS.

Pearl 9105 3G comes with 3.15 megapixel autofocus Camera with 2048 x 1536 pixels still image resolution, built-in zoom and automatic LED flash. The phone supports video playback in MPEG4, 3GPP and h.263 video file formats

The phone offers support for high-speed tri-band 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) networks, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/N wireless LAN and GPS with A-GPS.
